Iris bloudowii preferred habitats are alpine meadows and
fields. It is native to Asia. Plant gets to 20-30 cm tall.
The flowers are consisting of 3 sepals and 3 petals. Iris
bloudowii has very pretty, dark yellow blossoms with
violet veins, 5 cm in diameter, from early Spring to late
Autumn. The scape grows to about 4" tall and bears
two terminal blossoms.
The leaves are grayish green, sword-shaped, slightly
curved and predominantly striped. The plant spreads by
means of its modified stems, rhizomes, which are located
below the soil surface.
Hardiness zones 4-9, (-32°C/-25°F, -5°C/25°F) in
Winter. Requires a semi-shaded site and moist and well-drained
soil during the vegetative period. Very well suited to
the rock garden, and for group planting.
