Artabotrys
odoratissimus, also called the False Ylang Ylang, is
native of Asian tropical regions. This vine-like shrub is
common in forest. It does not grow higher than 3 meters,
but it can grow much larger. The artabotrys can be pushed
to grow a desired way. The fragrant inflorescences make
excellent cut flowers.
The woody trunk is slim and smooth, turning from brown to
green. The plant has an invasive nature and will
intertwine with everything in its path. It bears glossy
green leaves. The foliage is evergreen.
Artabotrys odoratissimus, as the name says, is a very
odorant plant. The rich-scented fragrance is sweet and
durable. The beautiful canary yellow flowers are produced
all year long in an ideal climate. They consist of 6
petals, alternating from big to small, to create a
stunning effect.
Hardiness zones 10-11 (1°C/35°F,5°C/40°F) in winter.
The plant needs a temperature over 10°C in order to grow,
although it can tolerate colder temperatures.
It prefers full sun or a medium shade. It can handle a
light drought, though it grows best with regular watering.
