Digitalis obscura, the Dusky Maid Sunset Foxglove is a biennial or short-lived perennial that grows to 1-2’, less frequently to 3’ tall and is from the mountains of Spain.

Each pendulous flower will show beautiful shades of sunset colors including amber, beige-brown, burnt orange and red, from late Spring to mid-Summer. This vivid subshrub produces flowers 1.5" long, that last at least a month. The upright woody stems and lily-like leaves are also ornamental. The willow-like foliage is grey-green, narrow and linear. Leaves are produced in the first year and the tall spikes of flowers the second year.

Hardiness zones 5-9, (-26°C/-15°F, -5°C/25°F) in Winter. Digitalis obscura grows in full or partial sun in lean to average garden soils, not too much compost, and water deeply but not too frequently. It needs very porous, open soil and protection where Winters are wet.
