Tithonia diversifolia, commonly known as the tree marigold or Mexican sunflower, is a herbaceous flowering plant in the Asteraceae family that can reach 2 to 3 m high. Tithonia diversifolia is native to Mexico, Central America and Cuba, it has been introduced to many Pacific islands (Hawaii, Guam, New Caledonia, French Polynesia, Palau) and some Indian Ocean islands. It is also naturalized in tropical parts of Asia and Africa. The tree marigold has hairy and greyish-green leaves and large and showy yellow flowers and is known for its ornamental purposes. The flowers ray size is approximately 3-6 cm by 0.5-1.8 cm. The daisy-like flower heads are solitary on a peduncle 6-13 cm long. Each mature stem may bear several flowers at the top of branches. Tithonia Diversifolia is attractive to bees, butterflies and/or birds. The plant is also considered to be a weed in some areas. It is adaptable to most soils. It is found growing on in disturbed areas, abandoned/waste lands, along roadsides and waterways and on cultivated farmlands. It can grow throughout the year and its seeds are spread through way of wind, water, and animals. Mexican sunflower tolerates heat and drought and can rapidly form large herbaceous shrubs. Also, Tithonia diversifolia is commonly used as a fodder for ruminants and rabbits who can eat the leaves. Water regularly but do not overwater. Hardiness zone: 9-10

Germination Sow directly on the surface of moist soil, pressing the seeds in and wait for germination, which normally occurs in 5 to 14 days. Don?t cover the seeds, as they need light for germination.
