Withania Somnifera
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) is an Indian plant of the Solanaceae family. It is part of traditional medicine of India Ayurveda.
In a clinical trial published in 2009, Ashwagandha has shown a therapeutic effect significantly superior to psychotherapy in the treatment of anxiety. The test group using this plant also showed an improvement in concentration, vitality and overall quality of life.
However, it is noted that the French Pharmacopoeia 2012 edition has put the root of Withania somnifera on the "List B medicinal plants traditionally used as is or as a preparation and potential adverse effects which are higher than the expected therapeutic benefit".
