Arctium lappa
La grande bardane (Arctium lappa L.) également appelée Oreille de géant est une plante herbacée biannuelle de la famille des Astéracées, parfois cultivée comme plante potagère pour sa racine consommée comme légume.
Plante biannuelle ou vivace à développement spectaculaire qui peut atteindre 2 m de haut, à grandes feuilles alternes, cordiformes, pubescentes à la face inférieure, à long pétiole.
Les fleurs, violettes, sont groupées en capitules globuleux, réunis en grappes. Elles apparaissent en plein été (juillet-août). Les capitules sont entourés d'un involucre formé de bractées très nombreuses à pointe recourbée formant crochet, qui aident à leurs dissémination par les animaux (zoochorie).
Les fruits sont des akènes, longs, comprimés, à courte aigrette.
La racine du type pivotant, est charnue, assez longue, jusqu'à 50 cm.

| Usage thérapeutique | Folk herbalists consider dried burdock to be a diuretic, diaphoretic, and a blood purifying agent. Various parts are used to prevent baldness and to treat rheumatoid arthritis, skin infections, acne, boils, bites, eczema, herpes, impetigo, rashes, ringworm, sore throat, sciatica, poison ivy and poison oak, as a tonic, diuretic and mild laxative, to stimulate bile production and to induce sweating. |
| Germination | It prefers a fresh, worked soil, rich in humus, and should be positioned in full sunlight. Burdock is very reactive to nitrogen fertilizer. Propagation is achieved through sowing the seeds midsummer. |
