Hedychium stenopetalum, le Gingembre étoile blanche, est potentiellement le plus large Gingembre papillon, atteignant jusqu'à 12 pieds.
Le Gingembre développe une tige florale de 18 pouces de haut, arborant des fleurs blanches. Les fleurs blanches sont teintées de jaune-verdâtre et développent des semences proéminentes blanches. Les feuilles sont grosses et impressionnantes.
Zones de rusticité 8-11, (5ºC/40ºF, -10ºC/15ºF) en Hiver. Cet Hedychium préfère la chaleur et un climat sans gel, bien qu'il se développera dans un climat où il y a quelques périodes de gel léger et de courtes durées. Vous pouvez le cultiver en pot si votre climat est trop rigoureux. Pour de meilleurs résultats, procurez un sol riche, humide et bien drainé. Procurez une protection contre les vents froids.

| Germination | Soak the seeds for 2 hours in hot water. Soaking is beneficial in two ways; it can soften a hard seed coat and also leach out any chemical inhibitors in the seeds which may prevent germination. Sow at 1/2" in pots or trays of moist seed compost. Place in a warm place, and keep at a constant temperature of between (20§C/68§F, 25§C/77§F). After sowing, do not exclude light as this helps germination. Keep the surface of the compost moist but not waterlogged; germination will usually take2-6 weeks, it can take longer, don't give up. The plant is healthier if grown not too hot, but cooler. |
