Salvia officinalis
Salvia officinalis est aussi appelée sauge ou sauge officinale. C'est un arbuste à feuilles persistantes qui atteint jusqu'à 0,6 m sur 0,6 m. Il possède d'excellentes qualités ornementales.
Ses feuilles froissées sont aromatiques. Elles sont utilisées fraîches ou séchées en cuisine comme assaisonnement. La sauge a une longue histoire en pratique médicinale. C'est un remède important pour traiter les troubles du système digestif.
C'est une plante qui tolère la sécheresse mais elle pousse mieux quand elle est arrosée avec modération.
Salvia officinalis préfère les sols bien drainés, neutres et des sols basiques (alcalins). Elle ne peut pas pousser à l'ombre.

| Usage thérapeutique | Effective gargle for the mouth in order to heal sore throats. The leaves applied to an aching tooth can relieve the pain. The whole herb is antihydrotic, antiseptic, antispasmodic, astringent, carminative, cholagogue, galactofuge, stimulant, tonic and vasodilator. Can be used internally in the treatment of excessive lactation, night sweats, excessive salivation (as in Parkinson's disease), profuse perspiration (as in TB), anxiety, depression, female sterility and menopausal problems. Externally, it is used to treat insect bites, skin, throat, mouth and gum infections and vaginal discharge. |
| Germination | Sow indoors in March or in April to May outside. Sow seed on the surface of lightly firmed, moist seed compost in pots or trays. Press the seeds lightly into the compost but do not cover, as they need light to germinate. They will germinate in 10 to 14 days. |
