Hylocereus undatus, the white-fleshed pitahaya, is used both as an ornamental vine and as a fruit crop - the pitahaya or dragon fruit.
It produces a very popular fruit, pitaya or pitahaya (taïno "scaly fruit"), also known as "fruit of the dragon" in French (or dragon fruit, strawberry pear in English). It has a pink skin covered with foliaceous scales. Its flesh is white and is filled with small black seeds.
