Datura Purple Double

Datura Purple Double is a stunning cultivar of the Datura plant, known for its large, double-flowered blooms with rich purple hues. The flowers are trumpet-shaped, with a deep, velvety purple color that fades to lighter shades of lavender at the edges of the frilled petals. The combination of bold color and the dramatic double flowers makes this variety an eye-catching addition to any garden or landscape.

This plant typically grows 3-4 feet (90-120 cm) tall and spreads around 2-3 feet (60-90 cm). It features lush, dark green foliage that contrasts beautifully with the vibrant purple flowers, making it a standout in the garden. *Datura Purple Double* blooms from late spring through fall, releasing a strong, sweet fragrance that attracts night-blooming pollinators such as moths.

Datura Purple Double thrives in full sun and well-drained, fertile soils. It is moderately drought-tolerant once established, but regular watering is recommended during prolonged dry periods to maintain healthy growth. This variety is best suited for warmer climates, though it can be grown as an annual in cooler regions or as a container plant that can be brought indoors for the winter.

In the garden, *Datura Purple Double* works well as a focal point, in containers, or as part of tropical or exotic plantings. The dramatic appearance of the double, purple flowers and the plant's large size make it ideal for creating bold visual impact. It is often used in evening gardens for its sweet fragrance, which is most noticeable at night.

To encourage continuous blooming, deadheading spent flowers is recommended. While this plant is relatively low-maintenance, it does require some care to ensure optimal growth. Pruning the plant regularly helps maintain its shape and encourages new flowers to emerge.

It is important to note that all parts of the Datura plant are toxic if ingested, so care should be taken when planting it in areas accessible to children or pets. Despite this, *Datura Purple Double* remains a popular and dramatic choice for gardeners looking to add bold color and fragrance to their outdoor spaces.
