Ephedra sinica, Chinese Ephedra or Mahuang is a slender East Asian shrub by the sea. This shrub has a witch broom appearance. The branches are angulated and leaves almost nonexistent. The flowers are yellow, the small leaves are leathery and the red berries are edible.
The plant contains alkaloids including ephedrine and pseudoephedrine (Methylephedrine, Pseudoephedrine3), so it has stimulating properties and is considered a doping product.
