Therapeutic uses Marjoram is considered to have expectorant, sedative, carminative and stimulant properties. Its internal use is helpful in cases of bronchial and chest disturbances, headaches, insomnia, digestive complaints, anxiety and painful menstruation. Used externally, usually in form of an essential oil, it can relieve muscular pain, ease the swollen and stiff joints, and can be of great help in case of arthritis. Oil applied directly to the skin can disperse bruising and help in treatment of chilblains. Marjoram can also be taken in cases of excessive gas and bloating.
Germination Sow indoors six weeks prior to last frost; or direct sow in fall; or winter sow in coldframe or unheated greenhouse. The seeds propagate well through softwood and semi-hardwood cuttings and well through rootball division. The seeds will germinate in approximately 8 to 14 days.

Cut back stems before flowers appear to encourage bushy growth. Leaf flavor is usually best before flowers bloom. Container plants may be brought indoors in fall before frost, but they usually do not overwinter well.
