Artabotrys odoratissimus, also called the False Ylang Ylang, is an Ylang Ylang vine native to Asian tropical regions. This vine-like shrub is common in forest. It does not grow higher than 3 meters, but it can grow much larger. The artabotrys can be pushed to grow a desired way. The fragrant inflorescences make excellent cut flowers. The woody trunk is slim and smooth, turning from brown to green. The plant has an invasive nature and will intertwine with everything in its path. It bears glossy green leaves. The foliage is evergreen. Artabotrys odoratissimus, as the name says, is a very odorant plant. The rich-scented fragrance is sweet and durable. The beautiful canary yellow flowers are produced all year long in an ideal climate. They consist of 6 petals, alternating from big to small, to create a stunning effect. Hardiness zones 10-11 (1°C/35°F,5°C/40°F) in winter. The plant needs a temperature over 10°C in order to grow, although it can tolerate colder temperatures. It prefers full sun or a medium shade. It can handle a light drought, though it grows best with regular watering.

Germination Sow using any good garden soil, mildly acid or neutral. Artabotrys will need to be watered once a week during growth. Warmth and luminosity are best. Once the plant has reached a good height, reduce watering and place the plant in a sunny or partially shaded spot. Artabrotys likes to take its time to grow, germination can take 2 months or more, don’t get discouraged.
