Ficus Auriculata
Ficus auriculata, commonly known as the Elephant Ear Fig or Roxburgh Fig, is a deciduous tree known for its striking, large leaves and edible figs. The tree can grow up to 10 meters tall (32 feet), with leaves that can reach 30 to 60 centimeters (12 to 24 inches) in length, resembling elephant ears. Its unique red to purple figs grow in clusters on the trunk and large branches, a characteristic typical of cauliflorous plants. Thriving in warm, tropical climates, this ornamental tree is ideal for gardens seeking lush foliage and a bountiful fig harvest. It prefers well-drained soil and moderate watering, making it relatively low-maintenance.
