Crataegus monogyna, known as common hawthorn or single-seeded hawthorn, is a species of hawthorn native to Europe, northwest Africa and western Asia. The common hawthorn is a shrub or small tree 5–14 metres (15 to 45 feet) tall, with a dense crown. Its foliage is deciduous. The shrub blooms in the spring, it is pollinated by insects (pollination entomogam). It is a pioneer species whose red drupes are dispersed by birds.
